Brain musings

Maybe it’s me but I think some of the best ideas comes out of unscheduled “brainstorming” sessions. Maybe people should take the time to do nothing but exercise their brains on purpose. Hang out with friends…grab a glass of wine (or maybe green tea), have no expectations and just talk about stuff you can do with your life, which more then not rolls into business. Throw around what you’re doin’ and wait for feedback in a laid back fashion.

The other day me and my academic colleague Dan were interviewing (for a paper to be presented at a conference) my old friend Herb about how he started his well-known business, why he sold it, and what it’s like to be an entrepreneur. After his explanation Herb started asking me what I’ve been up to (us entrepreneurs have this radar thing about business ideas…it’s like we can pick each other out of a crowd as Dan says). While laying out my recent ventures and adventures Herb’s eyes widened and the next words out of his mouth were “So when are we gettin’ together…why don’t you come over to my house during the weekend? I wanna talk to you about that, I have some ideas.” Hmmm, the magic words to a business junkie.

I’ll be havin’ lunch over at Herb’s soon…it’s just to enticing not to. And who know’s maybe a new project, venture, add-on to a current business, or whatever’ll come out of it. Geez I love this stuff!

Food, drink, some strategizing, fantasizing, molding, idea birthing, and voila! something new can materialize (or not) but it ain’t gonna happen if we don’t.
