Laughter in the face of life

So I’m sittin’ here looking at the web when I realize that the top stories are that six workers are trapped in a mine in Utah, the French President in freakin’ out on newsmen who are invading his privacy (and vacation…yeah that’s what we all want – to go on vacation and be followed around by a bunch of people with cameras), the Minneapolis bridge disaster clean-up, a mom and her baby who were among five people who died in a medical plane crash and a teenager who falls six stories and lives.

Hmm…ok here’s my question: when are we gonna learn how to lighten up, laugh and have a good time. Think about those six miners (I hope they’re gotten out alive), the mom and child and those folks in Minneapolis who have passed. Reflect upon your life and turn it inward.

Do you laugh or are you constantly stressed. Are things bothering you that, if you took a long and broad view of them, you’d realize how ridiculous it is to worry (a time waster).

I was watching PBS the other day and saw Wayne Dyer. He was talking about everything be outside of our control (or something along those lines) and just going with the flow and letting the energy take you.

Now I’m a BIG energy person and I know that you can let it flow and go with the river or you can create you own flow. Of course all the energy is constantly around us and we’re not really creating it (since it’s already there), we’re using it differently. So…you can redirect at will, create your own mellowness, live in your own yogic state (as I talk about in my book “Stand Back A Second, Just Don’t Fall Off The Edge”).

It wasn’t that long ago when I had a woman call me about my “Control” audio on my Podcast. She mentioned that she doesn’t believe that we control the happenings in our lives and that the sooner we realize that and stop trying to control we’ll be better off. Hmm…I thought, “Wait a minute! In order for me to let go I have to control the fact that I’m letting go.” An interesting paradox.

Of course we’re not in control of everything that happens around us. Just ask the miners or the people on the bridge. I know somebody will say…well, it was there choice to be a miner or take that route. Right, but they wouldn’t have done either if they knew they were gonna collapse.

It’s up to you to control your energy, increase your lightness, sit in the lotus position, or watch Bernie Mac. Come on folks laugh a little and enjoy life. And say no to some of the crap that drives you nuts. Enough. As the old line goes, “Nobody said they wish they had more money on their deathbed, but they sure would like more time.”
