7 Part Sales E-Course
Lesson 2: If It Is To Be...Look Inside!
It's all in your head.
That's right...it's in that noggin of yours.
Those magic ingredients I mentioned in Lesson 1 aren't really magic at all!
You knew that from the get-go. You've had them all the time, yet too many folks refuse to recognize them or worse, know that they have them and don't take the time to use them.
Hmm...so what does that mean?
Well, it usually translates into someone who can't figure out why they haven't been able to close enough sales, get their projects completed effectively or have their team follow their lead...in other words, lots of work but not a lot of positive results.
They swear they're doing all they can yet nothing seems to fall into place. Maybe it's because they're better at self-defeating behavior than at positive self-motivation. Could it be that someone can actually thrive on defeating himself or herself? Well...yes. I see it quite often.
The listening and questioning skills that I spoke about in Lesson 1 are a perfect example. We all know that by listening and asking questions we can learn an incredible amount of important information. However, why have so few people mastered those techniques? It may be because we love to tell people how much knowledge we have at our disposal. One of the first things to realize is that everything you want to say you already know! Why not take the time to learn and wait (a very hard thing for many people to do) until you find out what you'll be addressing in order to impart your wisdom.
How you use your motivational energy says a lot about where you want to go in your life. Spending precious energy on self-defeating behavior (and other negatives) depletes your fuel tank and makes it difficult to function effectively. But, just as you can learn how to create self-defeating behavior you can learn how to do away with it and become positively charged!
Negativity (including subconscious negativity) is a creeping dis-ease and can make you lethargic, cranky, an accomplished complainer, ineffective and the creator of a number of other inefficient attributes.
So...what are some tips to do away with those energy zappers?
Let's start with recognition. Can you view yourself realistically? Do you ask for and are you willing to received constructive feedback about your sales, management and/or leadership skills? Until you understand yourself it's extremely difficult to understand others, and that includes your clients, prospects, co-workers and team members.
Spend some quality character building time with people you work with. Be open to learning about yourself as they perceive you. Start by thinking about your insecurities and putting them aside (as best you can) in order to grow. What a great way to build trust, camaraderie, and rapport. Believe me it'll be worth it.
