Contentment Versus Happiness

I had an interesting conversation the other day about happiness. It occurred to me that happiness, like so many things, can be fleeting. You can have a very happy life, yet still not feel content. Something inside of you may be searching for fulfillment that happiness may not be giving you. Contentment is a different state. You may be very content in your happiness, your situation, and your day-to-day life. It's more of an overarching constant. You may worry less, love sitting and looking out the window at the trees, walking in the neighborhood, or just relaxing on the couch. Being in a state of contentment can allow you to deal with the ups and downs of happiness. It's that feeling that even in times of stress, which we all have, your contentment can help you cope.
