The Beauty of Books

I spend quite a bit of time reading. Student papers, things online, newspaper articles (yeah, they're still around), and books.
There's something about holding a book, reading the words on the page, enjoying the graphics on the cover and maybe some inside, even the smell of a new book has a nostalgic thing about it. A smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop screen doesn't have the same panache for me.

I'm an author of four books and while one of them is online, the other ones are '"the real thing." When someone is interested in seeing my books, I can hand three of them to them. For the other one they have to log onto the publisher's site. My closest friend only reads his books online, and I respect that. I just like the feel of a book and the ability to use my various techniques to highlight things I find important, note typos, and use an old fashioned bookmark to remind me where I need to start up again.
Every time I walk by a book store I fell compelled to go in. I'm like a kid in a candy store. It's rare when I walk out empty handed. I may be wrong, but I think there's a bit of a renaissance towards people buying 'real books' and the things they contain. At least I hope so! Of course, feel free to buy the online versions as well. The writers and publishers appreciate your purchase no matter what type you decide to buy.
